Meet Rayen McLeod

Welcoming Rayen McLeod to the Kelowna Trauma Therapy Team!

The Kelowna Trauma Therapy team is thrilled to introduce its newest member, Rayen McLeod! Rayen brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to the practice, and the team is excited to have her on board.

A Brief Introduction

Rayen Mcleod, MSW, RSW, RCC (she/her) is a proud member of Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc First Nation with mixed European ancestry. She is a recent graduate of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the University of British Columbia. She also comes with 18 years of experience in the social service sector. Rayen’s background in social work and specialized expertise in sex therapy have equipped her to provide compassionate and effective care to individuals and couples.

Professional Expertise

Rayen’s journey in social work and therapy has been nothing short of remarkable. Rayen has previously worked and trained as a sex therapist, where she demonstrated her commitment to providing compassionate care and support to individuals and couples navigating complex issues surrounding sexual health, sexual issues, relationships, and personal growth. Her approach is grounded in creating a safe and non-judgmental space for exploration and healing. Rayen welcomes clients from all walks of life and specializes in helping couples with intimacy issues, individuals exploring their sexuality and gender identity, and survivors of sexual trauma.

Work Experience and Skills

Rayen’s extensive work experience speaks volumes about her dedication to the field. She spent a few years working as a research assistant in the therapeutic, recreational, and problematic substance use lab at UBC, where she honed her skills in research and analysis. Over the years, Rayen has developed a diverse skill set, including human resources management and program development. Her certifications and licenses further underscore her commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, with qualifications in trauma-informed care, unconscious bias, and more.

What sets Rayen apart is her personalized approach to therapy. Whether clients prefer in-person sessions, online video counselling, or telephone consultations, she ensures that her services are accessible and tailored to individual needs and preferences. Rayen believes in the importance of human connection and creating a safe space for healing. Recognizing the vulnerability often accompanying difficult moments, she strives to provide a space where individuals feel validated and empowered.

Polyvagal Therapy: Understanding and addressing the body’s nervous system responses to improve emotional regulation and resilience.

Human-Centered Approach: Prioritizing empathy and understanding of the individual’s experiences to create a safe and supportive environment.

Holistic Therapy: Considering the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit to promote overall well-being and balance.

Existential Therapy: Exploring deep questions about life, meaning, and purpose to help clients find fulfillment and authenticity.

Transpersonal Therapy: Addressing spiritual aspects of the human experience to achieve higher states of consciousness and self-awareness.

Outside of Work

In her spare time, Rayen enjoys practicing yoga for physical and mental well-being, nurturing her passion for sustainable living through eco-friendly practices, and connecting with nature through camping and hiking. She also values cultural and spiritual connections, finds inspiration and relaxation in music, practices spirituality to stay grounded and centered, cherishes time with her wife and four children, tends to her garden as a relaxing and fulfilling hobby, and shares her home with two cats and two dogs.
