Low-Cost Counselling in Kelowna, BC

Accessible Support When You Need It Most

We know that cost can be one of the biggest barriers when it comes to accessing mental health support. Whether you’re living on a fixed income, navigating a financial rough patch, or simply can’t afford private therapy rates, you're not alone—and you shouldn't have to go without support.

At Kelowna Trauma and Life Therapy (KTLT), we believe that everyone deserves access to quality, compassionate care, regardless of financial circumstance. That’s why we’re offering low-cost counselling sessions as part of our practicum student training program. This initiative helps make mental health services more accessible in our community—particularly for seniors and individuals with limited income—while also supporting the development of the next generation of skilled therapists.

Who Qualifies for Low-Cost Counselling?

This offering is designed for individuals in the Kelowna area who may face financial or systemic barriers to traditional therapy. You may qualify if you:

  • Are living on a fixed or limited income

  • Identify as a senior (60+)

  • Are currently uninsured or underinsured

  • Otherwise experiencing financial hardship

  • Cannot afford standard private-practice therapy rates

We encourage anyone who feels this program may be a good fit to reach out. We’ll work with you to determine eligibility in a respectful, no-pressure conversation.

Benefits of Low-Cost Counselling

Affordable doesn’t mean less effective. All sessions are led by a master’s-level practicum student who is completing the final phase of their clinical training. These students are carefully selected, closely supervised by licensed therapists, and bring fresh perspectives, empathy, and up-to-date knowledge of the latest therapeutic methods.

Therapy through this program can support you with:

  • Anxiety, depression, and mood concerns

  • Grief and loss

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Life transitions (retirement, caregiving, aging, etc.)

  • Relationship issues

  • Building coping skills and emotional resilience

Clients benefit from personalized, thoughtful care in a supportive environment—at a rate that won’t create added financial stress.

How It Works

Here’s what to expect from our low-cost counselling program:

  • Sessions are provided by a qualified intern completing their practicum placement at KTLT.

  • The intern is supervised by an experienced, licensed therapist who provides ongoing guidance and oversight to ensure high-quality care.

  • Sessions are 55 minutes in length and can be held in-person or virtually, depending on your preference.

  • The number of available spots may be limited, so we encourage early inquiry if you’re interested.

To get started, simply contact us to express your interest. We’ll book a brief phone consultation to confirm eligibility and match you with our practicum student.

What Does It Cost?

$60 per 55-minute session

This fee helps cover administrative and supervision costs while keeping services affordable.

Sliding Scale

Sliding scale options may be available upon request, based on individual financial needs.

There is no strict limit on the number of sessions you can access, though sessions are subject to availability. We also encourage ongoing check-ins to ensure the service continues to meet your needs.
