Meet Lea Thomson

Welcome to Kelowna Trauma and Life Therapy!

We are excited to introduce Lea Thomson as the newest member of our team at Kelowna Trauma and Life Therapy. Lea brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and dedication to her role, and we are thrilled for the positive impact she will have on our clients and the broader community.

Meet Lea Thomson: Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Trauma Therapist

Lea is a registered social worker (RSW) holding a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) with a clinical focus from UBC. Lea has experience providing trauma-focused therapy for individuals, families, and groups, and over 20 years of experience supporting diverse client populations in a variety of therapeutic settings, including through direct support, advocacy, and case management.

Lea’s expertise includes helping clients navigate challenges such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, and addictions. She approaches therapy with a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens, ensuring that each client receives personalized care. She incorporates evidence-based treatment modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, family systems therapy, and mindfulness-based methods.

Experience in Trauma Support for First Responders

For the past two years, Lea has worked closely with first responders coping with PTSD, in an intensive trauma therapy program. She understands how profoundly trauma can impact a person’s life, often going unnoticed. Lea shared that many individuals coping with trauma express the sentiment, “I just want to get my life back.” Witnessing clients recover hope and make progress has deepened her passion for trauma work. Lea recognizes that trauma is often at the root of many mental health diagnoses, and she is committed to supporting individuals toward healing.

Commitment to Community and Well-Being

Lea’s commitment to well-being extends beyond her professional work. She has volunteered with local community health and wellness ministries, supported those facing housing insecurity, and led various outreach programs aimed at uplifting the community. These volunteer experiences shape her approach to therapy and enrich the care she provides to her clients.

Lea’s Personal Interests and Approach to Wellness

Outside of her professional work, Lea enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly exploring the lakes and trails around Kelowna. She also values quality time with her two grown children and her spirited dog, who always brings a smile to her face.

We are thrilled to have Lea as part of our team at Kelowna Trauma and Life Therapy. Her extensive experience, compassionate approach, and dedication to client care will make her an incredible asset to both our team and the clients we serve. We look forward to the valuable work we will accomplish together.

Feel free to reach out to Lea to learn more about the therapy services she offers or to book a session. Together, you can begin your journey toward healing and well-being.
