Meet Karen Bamford: Grief & Trauma Counsellor Now Welcoming Clients in Kelowna

We’re thrilled to introduce Karen Bamford, a compassionate and experienced grief and trauma counsellor, as the newest member of the team at Kelowna Trauma and Life Therapy.

Karen brings a grounded, holistic approach to her counselling work—one rooted not just in clinical training, but in her own lived experience with grief and healing. She understands that grief comes in many forms—whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or even a version of ourselves—and believes that these painful experiences can also be powerful catalysts for growth and transformation.

With over 12 years of experience working in a police environment and a background in business, Karen offers real-world insight and a deeply empathetic approach to therapy. She specializes in Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and thoughtfully integrates breathwork, mindfulness, and self-care practices tailored to each client. Her therapeutic approach supports whole-person healing—mental, emotional, and physical.

Karen’s work is guided by openness, curiosity, and a strong belief that healing begins when we feel truly seen and heard. She creates a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their stories, rebuild trust in themselves, and take the next steps — finding their way, one choice at a time, with clarity and intention.

A Bit About Karen Outside the Therapy Room

Outside of her professional work, Karen enjoys living a quiet, intentional life. She’s a self-described social introvert, who prefers small, intimate gatherings over busy social scenes. You’ll often find her tending to her garden, flowing through a yoga practice, or getting lost in a good non-fiction book. She also loves riding her trusty 3-gear beachcomber bicycle—though she’ll be the first to tell you it has two more gears than she really needs!

Karen is passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community, and she brings this same spirit of care and generosity into her client work. Her presence exudes warmth, calm, and genuine compassion—and we couldn’t be happier to welcome her to our team.
